The Boy at The Top of The Mountain
Our group had to read a book called The Boy at the Top of The Mountain. It was a book about Hitler and i chose to present my book review.
The Boy at The Mountain. - John Boyne.
The Boy at The Mountain is a great book, the author was John Boyne. He has written 14 other books which makes 15 in total at the age of 46! He is from Ireland. The genre of The Boy at The top of the Mountain is fiction/historical fiction.
The plot of this book. The book is set in 1935. When Pierrot becomes an orphan, he must leave his home in Paris for a new life with his Aunt Beatrix, a servant in a wealthy household at the top of the German mountains. The Second World War is fast approaching; this is no ordinary house either, for this is the Berghof, the home of Adolf Hitler.
Quickly, Pierrot is taken under Hitler's wing, and is thrown into an increasingly dangerous world: a world of terror, secrets and betrayal, from which he may never be able to escape.
Pierrot also know as Pieter, had friends and is now making new ones. Pierrot used to be afraid, self conscious, but when hitler takes him under his wing he becomes a man, and over the years, gets into more manly things.
I would recommend this book to people who enjoy history or want to learn more about Hitler. Will you dare to read this book?

Mandarin Lesson
Today with Tracie we learnt how to paint on of the Chinese ways. We painted a panda with it's mother. It was lit. I threw mine in the bin because i didn't like it and it would have leaked. It was very fun to paint and learn the way that they do it.
Passion Project & Reflection
Ocean and i haven't presented our passion project yet although, i think there are some things that we could have worked on to make it better here are a few.
In the movie we could have had some more information but it was kinda hard to get information on the Illuminati because there weren't any books in the library. I think the quality of the movie could have been louder, and a little less silly. It also could have been produced faster so that we had proper time to edit it.
You see i would link the movie but it isn't exactly working. Hence we did not share it.

Adding Detail
This is what we have been doing in class for the past couple of weeks. For 10 mins each day we would write about a picture in detail. Then we deleted the slides that we didn't use and are uploading it to our blog. I chose my top 3 to present.

Whispered Secret - Short Story
Whispered Secrets
4:20pm, but the night creeping upon us. They were walking their normal track. All the same house down this street. Campbell Lane. Red roof, 4 windows with a finishing nude door. They start running. There's a house. But this one was different than the others. This one had a yellow door, 1 window but was like a mansion compared to the others. There were balloons tied to the letter box, red as blood. “That’s not creepy at all.” Nicole says sarcastically. “I know right.” replied Lily. Something was off about this place. They stopped. Lily, Keira and Nicole. They glanced around. Nicole walked up to the crooked stairs, her dark brown hair swaying in the wind. She feels something brush past behind her. She quickly turns around. She felt a shiver. She marched forward, determined to discover things nobody’s eyes would like to see.
She knocks on the door, echos colliding. The rush of fear makes her tremble as she meanders in. She felt atemporal though ebullient. “Hello?” she mumbles. No reply. But the door opens, with no assistance. There were paranormal spirits, they could just tell They were giving the girls heebie jeebies. Nicole gave the Lily and Keira a hand signal to enter with her. Lily stayed back; she wasn’t going to risk her life. Whilst Keira on the other hand, went on in. With the 2 girls wandering in, the run down stairs started creaking. They think nothing of it. They went around the corner. They decided to stay together because if one if one of them is getting killed, both of them are getting killed. They agree to go to the left, that way they most probably won’t get lost. A door slowly starts closing, then it slams. The girls jump in amazement of what just happened. They continue walking, but without knowing what they’re walking into.
It was a jaunt past 1 room, then the next. A family of four they gathered. They stopped at a room. The rest of the house was broken, sacrifice. But the next room was pink, pretty. A little girl’s dream room. The cot starts moving, rocking side to side. It stops. A white faded silhouette of a body rams towards them. It grabs Nicole by her neck raising her off her feet.. Nicole was now white, faded. All the colour had seeped through. It had taken Nicole hostage. Keira yelps for help from Lily, but her words turned thin. Lily was on her phone with her bright red phone case. She was fiddling with it wondering when they would burst out. Keira tried to follow the ‘ghost’ but ended up at the basement. But then a sudden screech awoke Nicole. She looked around, all in sight was Keira. She cried out her name, again and again. Keira tried running toward her but the ‘ghost’ used telekinesis to grab a knife and slit NIcole’s throat.
The darkness crowded around Keira. Her knees turned into jelly. She tried to run but the spirit pulled her back. She yearned to go back in time and change the future. The spirit crumbled her to ash. Watching her plummet to the ground. Lily decided to walk in. She wondered where they were? “Nicole, Keira? Where are you guys? You’re scaring me.” she decided to check the basement first. “Ironic” she whispered to herself… but her mouth never moved. “Who’s here?” she says quietly. No reply. Silence expanding everywhere. Lighting controlled the night merging with the dreadful blue. Lily grabbed a broken piece of wood. Hoping to stab Annabelle with it. The wood had splinters it entered the room, levitating in a circle. Stabbing herself. Taking it out, goes back in again. She fell to the ground. She tries escaping. All else fails. Clawing the crippled wood under her, as Annabelle pulls her in closer and closer. The chiming music calms Annabelle. Nicole, Lily and Keira all dead. Blood surrounding them. Leaving their pasts behind them. The red phone case, matching the red balloons. Dead…
Duane Kayle
On friday afternoon, a paralympic swimmer came to HNI to have a chat with us... Duane Kayle.
He talked about be persistent and being open minded. "Never give up and aspire to achieve" was one of the key messages he told us. "It won't matter, 100 years from now, what your bank account balance was, what sort of house you lived in, or what sort of car you drove. I think the most important thing is to make a difference to yourself but also make a difference to others." were some other words he spoke. I think he truly inspired all of us.

Note Taking and Note Making
We take notes to help us remember information we read or hear. Sometimes we need to copy exactly such as a quote or reference that someone else has said. Taking notes is short - key words, pictures, symbols, text language even. Taking notes is a personal preference - no two people take notes exactly the same.
Key Idea - Short, sweet and to the point!
Choose one track or field event - find three YouTube clips that clearly model the correct technique, (remember what you have learnt about reliable websites).
Copy and paste the URL address below. Either on this doc or in your literacy book, rehearse taking notes.

Text Type - Information Report (Purpose)
(Audience) Sheppard House
DESCRIPTION
1 Introduction
– What the text is going to be about
– A short description of the subject
– Can include a definition
|
This description is going to teaching you about a good way to begin sprinting. It includes some tips and tricks and the correct stances. sprinting is mainly in school athletics and interschool sport. the definition of sprint is: run at full speed over a short distance. Sometimes if you do super duper well you will run a lot further than a short distance.
|
2 Body of the report
- Each paragraph begins with a topic sentence which previews the information in the rest of the paragraph
- Sentences after give more details
- Each paragraph should give information about one feature of the subject
- May include technical language
|
Sprinting is quite hard if you don't train for it and don't have an open mind. For more of a successful sprint here are a few tips I recommend using.
|
3.
Repeat the same steps as 2
|
Well in my personal opinion sprinting isn't just for in school, and competitions. older people sprint as well. By older I mean 20+ not 50+. Once people get the hang of it they start doing it for fun; in their own time. when people start sprinting say, weekly, they would get into a habit of it and be a lot healthier and faster. ( This isn't just for older people.) You can try at home as well!
|
4.
Repeat the same steps as 2
|
LIke i mentioned before you need a positive mindset. this means that you don't say: i can't do this but saying: i will try my best. This helps so much. Just be happy for trying.
|
- Can summarise the report
|
In conclusion Sprinting is very healthy and good for you. If you're like me and HATE sprints or long distance hopefully this helped you a little. It sure helped me! when you actually think about it sprints isn't that bad and you should just participate. JUST HAVE FUN!

Term Reflection - Highlights
My term reflection - this term has been such a great term! So sad that it is now over. My biggest highlight is ...
Highlights - one of my highlights is when I started hanging out with Lily, Keira and Nicole. I have made even more friends now. I have been doing a little more work in extension maths, which is always good. We are now learning about probability.

Speech Reflection
Kia ora,
Ko Zahra toku ingoa
Ko Homework, right. Most people hate it. And.. same. I am here to elaborate the reasons kids of this generation, (like me) should not do homework. So here i am speaking on behalf of basically every kid ever about not doing homework.
1.
|
Kids might already be super busy with other things so at the start of the year i was quite a busy person. On monday i had netball practise on tuesday swimming tech wednesday guitar netball game choir thursday pe friday elective.
2.
|
So throughout the week i had to do things for my elective, guitar practise, chores, i was also learning a few languages. I had trips which put me behind in other work. Which meant i basically had no time for myself let alone homework. and i know there are kids even more busier than that. And i don't know how they do it
3.
|
We already do enough work at school and we need to be outside playing and BEING KIDS! my opinion is that we do enough work at school. And when we get home that is the time we get to be kids. And we shouldn't be on devices 24/7, and some people can't get home and do homework because their parents work later than others. Like i know someone who’s mum doesn’t get home until 5.
4.
|
Basically when we get home that the only time during work days that we can go outside and play and socialize.
so in conclusion i want to put my opinion out there that kids should not be doing homework.

Self Reflection!
WALT: Plan, prepare and deliver a persuasive speech related to our T3 inquiry topic - Healthy Bodies, Strong Minds
Topic: Homework
Persuasive component:
Time: 2:03
Keep
(What would you keep in your speech if you did it again?)
|
Change
(What would you change in your speech for next time, how could you make it even better? and why?)
|
Match
(Pick a partner from our class and ask what they would keep, change, add and chuck. What is similar to your thinking?)
|
I wouldn't keep anything to be honest.
|
I would change just about everything. Detail, editing, the topic the list goes on.
|
Lily kept her conclusion
Lily would make it longer
|
Add
(What further ideas and/or detail would you add to your speech? Were you persuasive enough - what do you peers think?)
|
Chuck
(What are some of the parts of your speech you would scrap?)
| |
I would add a lot more detail to my speech. Expression, cue cards, comedic references.
|
I would chuck the points and add in new ones. Or keep them and just add new ones.
|
This is my speech and reflection.
